Player`s review Absolute Poker
About a year and a half ago, Absolute Poker - a site that's been up and running at least as long as I've been playing poker online-- had a scandal involving a cheating scheme. There was a tournament player who'd found a way to see every other player's hole cards and, as such, starting taking everyone for thousands of dollars.
After a rage fest started within the community, a member of Absolute's tech staf “accidentally” sent out data that exposed the cheater and consequently sparked a new wave of oversight in the online gaming community. For this reason, and this reason alone, Absolute Poker has remained as one of the better sites still available. They've recently merged with Ultimatebet.com, so they've got an even larger oversight tech support crew than they had before and, at least from what I've heard and read from forum boards across the web, they've amassed a school of fish that just might rival Party Poker in the coming months. We'll see.
Absolute has a reputation for a very responsive tech staff, with the customer service people constantly responding to player suggestions by tweaking their games subtly, adding tournaments according to preference, keeping an open, honest and lively correspondence between users and webmasters. They really did take the cue from the scandal to bring about fundamental reinforcement of the idea that online poker is, while still ultimately a game of hustlers, an honest one.
They offer a decent variety of games (though by far the most widely popular and pushed on the site is No Limit Hold 'em), a high volume of players during peak hours, and have a no-download option for those of us who are on Mac or Linux operating systems. Considering that they, too, offer a multi-table option, those players who are more seasoned with online play (and those, again, who are lucky enough to be playing online out of the US,) can make quite a good amount of money playing in the mid-level tables. The overly cautious player is probably still angry with Absolute for their slip in OPOctober of '07, and might be a little leery about returning to play there.
For those of you who fit under this category, please rest assured that they've fixed the security problems and have taken extensive measures recently to ameliorate the problem. Absolute Poker is a perfect example of how a popular but flawed site can take a hit as enormous as the one they took and turn it into a new, higher standard of oversight, openness, and honesty within a system that so many of us have enjoyed for a decade.
