Poker Stars bills itself as the world's largest poker site, and as far as I've been able to tell, it's one of the oldest. I can't actually think of a site I've used longer other than Pacific Poker, and I switched to Poker Stars as a primary poker fix because both the play features and the style of play on the site, especially as I got to the higher levels of play, were far tighter and far more aggressive thant he loose-goose with Pacific. The only initial issue some users might find with Poker Stars initially is that, being the most popular and the one with the most glaring celebrity endorsements, a more seasoned poker player will find initial play to be a little irritating as it's easy to find a lot of players who want to go all-in pre-flop in many of the low-stakes games.
The site itself features free downloads for the software, 24-hour support, a wide variety of game selection and, at least for those of you lucky enough to still be able to legally play for real money, secure and verifiable deposits and quick, easy cash checkouts. I've been using the site since before the great hand of the law shut down online gambling in the states and was always happy with the features offered by this, the site that pastes faces like Negraneau's and Hachem's and Moneymaker's in every single page on the ad site.
The support offered on the site is fairly straight-forward and the staff is prompt and friendly. I have had some issues over the years with password changes and specific questions, and the staff has always been courteous and fast in responding. The site asks, of course, that you consult their FAQ for more common questions before you go through the whole process of writing to the site directly, but just the same I never once had a member of the tech support staff admonish me for contacting them directly for assistance. Any issues I've had have been addressed and fixed within hours (if not minutes) of a request for service.
The games offered at Poker Stars are varied, more so reportedly than any poke affiliate site up and running right now. The games range from the most popular No-Limit Hold-em tables to the more complicated and, for me, the more confusing Hi-Lo Omaha. The games are offered both in fixed (limit) tables and in No-Limit format.
Poker Stars comes both in a free server and a gambling one (for you lucky ones outside of the US) and is almost always in the the top 5 poker listings on any site, so finding ways to download the software to get you playing right away are simple, straight-forward, and abundant.
